No-Gi BJJ strips away the gi, the grip-fighting, and the gear costs — and leaves you with faster, more practical, and genuinely more fun training. Here's why we made it our only option.
I taught gi for years. Then I watched student after student quit because of the cost, the gear hassle, and the injuries. No-gi fixed all three at once.
When I built A-Team, the decision to go no-gi only wasn't a trend. It was based on what I kept seeing in the gym - people arriving motivated and leaving frustrated, not because BJJ was too hard, but because the traditional gi format put up unnecessary barriers.
The gear is expensive. The grip-heavy training is brutal on older joints. And frankly, the skills you build in a gi don't transfer cleanly to real-life situations - because nobody is wearing one.
No-gi removes every one of those barriers. What's left is pure grappling - athletic, fast, practical, and accessible to anyone regardless of age, size, or injury history. That's the gym I wanted to build.

A traditional gi costs $80–$200. Then you need two (one in the wash). Then your kids grow out of theirs. Then you're hand-washing special fabric twice a week.
With No-Gi, you need a t-shirt and a pair of shorts. That's it. No zippers, no special detergents, no sizing stress. The only thing standing between you and your first class is walking through the door.
No extra costs, no complicated gear - just show up and train!
Nobody wants to walk into work with jammed fingers and a wrist they can't bend. Gi training involves constant gripping and pulling on thick fabric — and after 35, your hands and wrists will let you know about it.
No-gi removes grip-based strain almost entirely. Without fabric to grab, there's less friction, fewer cumulative micro-injuries, and significantly less wear on your fingers, wrists, and elbows. If you've been putting off BJJ because of an existing injury — this is the format that makes it accessible.
Gi BJJ is like chess — slow, methodical, grip-heavy. No-gi is like a fast-paced game of tag mixed with wrestling. Without grips slowing things down, the pace is quicker, the movements are more fluid, and the training feels genuinely athletic.
It's a serious full-body workout that builds cardio, strength, and agility — without relying on brute force or painful throws. Most people walk out of their first no-gi class surprised by how much fun they had and how hard they worked.
Let's be direct: nobody walks around in a kimono. The self-defence skills you build in a gi don't transfer cleanly to real situations, because real situations don't come with collar grips.
No-gi training is built on the same mechanics as real-world grappling — clinches, takedowns, ground control — without the artificial grip structure. What you learn on the mat is what you'd actually use. It's also beginner-friendly from day one: no complicated grip sequences, no gear barrier, no prior experience required.
WORDS DON'T DO IT JUSTICE.
No-gi training looks fast, fluid, and athletic in a way that a benefit list can't capture. Watch sixty seconds of a real A-Team class and you'll understand why our members keep coming back.
Tim B - Former Gi Practitioner.
For most of our adult members, no-gi removed the last excuse. No gear to buy, no technique you need to unlearn, no reason to wait.
If you've avoided BJJ because of a bad shoulder, a knee you've been managing for years, or a back that talks to you in the morning — no-gi training is specifically where you want to be.
Our coaches train around your body, not against it. That means modified drilling from day one, honest conversation about your limitations, and a long-term approach that doesn't ask you to push through pain to progress.
Still not sure no-gi is for you? That's exactly what the free trial is for. Come in, move around, meet the coaches, and decide for yourself. No gear, no experience, no pressure.
Most people who come for one class stay for years. We'd rather show you than tell you.
We cap free trials at 10 per month so every new member gets real coaching attention from day one.
